Washington's Malevolence

"Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God." ~ 1 Corinthians 6:10

Washington's Malevolence is a quest mod for Fallout 3 and Tale of Two Wastelands, where the Lone Wanderer travels to the fictional Maddox Island in search of the Rocky Cape Bank, a pre-War bank that is said to contain untold riches. Players will also get to explore multiple locations around the island with interesting backstories and meet plenty of different personalities that are sure to leave an impression that lasts.

To start the quest, retrieve the note from next to the entrance door in the Citadel Bailey upon completing The Waters of Life. You only need access to the Citadel; completing the main quest of Fallout 3 is no longer a requirement.

Project Winchester (Untitled Maddox Island Project)

Project Winchester, a.k.a. the Untitled Maddox Island Project, was meant to be a heavily re-worked version of Washington's Malevolence, essentially scrapping the original story wholesale, re-writing several locations, and introducing three original main quest threads to the setting.

To travel to Maddox Island, you will have to speak to Captain Shores, who runs a bait and ammo shop at the end of the docks near Rivet City, around the same location as the meet-up shack from Washington's Malevolence. He will task you with a short delivery quest that upon completion, allows you to freely travel between Maddox Island and the Capital Wasteland.

UMIP's 2024-01-07 early alpha build is being included on this page purely for archival purposes, as it is an in-progress project that is essentially hung in development hell and will probably stay that way. That said, I will not be accepting bug reports for the project; that rework is so early in development that every element is still subject to change.

UMIP and Washington's Malevolence are NOT backwards compatible and cannot be loaded at the same time. As UMIP is a rework of the original Maddox Island setting, it reuses and repurposes too many records, NPCs, and scripts from WM and both mods will break spectacularly if you attempt to load them both at the same time... if it even loads at all. I don't know, I haven't tested it.

READ: UMIP's Tale of Two Wastelands port is a barebones port that I put about the bare minimum into to actually get it working properly. As a lot of the original mod was stripped out of it and development hadn't actually progressed all that far, the port job didn't take very long. That said, TTW specific features such as camp sites, reloading benches, among other things are not in this build.

Chemical Reaction/Sons of the Prospectors

(Description from 2023-07-28 build)

"Chemical Reaction" is a short story where the Courier assists Dr. Martin Ericsson (aka Mad Marty) in experiments revolving around concoctions that are meant to change the world... at least as long as Mad Marty doesn't keep tripping over his own feet doing so. Along the way, the Courier will meet new characters with interesting back stories, and face decisions that will shape the course of future stories in the D-Series of mods.

The Prospectors saga was a series of mods for Fallout: New Vegas that was intended to continue story threads from Malevolence, but in the New Vegas setting. Unfortunately, the project was cancelled in favor of pursuing more lucrative avenues of story telling in original settings.

The build released here is a very early alpha version, with quest threads that are not finished and do not have a definitive end. This build is NOT meant to be kept in a load order.

To start the individual quest threads, follow the prompts that appear when first loading the mod.

Installation Notes

The Malevolence downloads are completely self-contained and are easily installable through your favorite mod manager (or a manual mod installation into your Data folder if you're feeling dangerous on this particular day!)

The UMIP download is nothing but loose files and is really not recommended for a manual install.

The Chemical Reaction download is actually packaged and can be installed the same way Malevolence is installed.
